Courtney Shanade Salter, aka Ari Lennox, was born in Washington, D.C. on the 26th of March, 1991. She is an American singer-songwriter and the first artist to be signed by J. Cole to his record label Dreamville Records. Dreamville Records released her debut EP, Pho, in October 2016 where she started getting noticed. Shea Butter Baby her debut album was released on May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox began posting her music to the internet in 2012 as she dropped her first mixtape Five Finger Discount and debut EP Ariography In 2013. The singer continued uploading her songs online throughout 2014, which included the self-released single Bound. In 2015, she appeared on Omen's Elephant Eyes album on Sweat it out on July 21st. J. Cole, who was part of the Dreamville team at the time was interested in having her create Rihanna references.
