Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter, aka Ari Lennox, was born in Washington, D.C. on the 26th of March, 1991. She is an American singer-songwriter and the first artist to be signed by J. Cole to his record label Dreamville Records. Dreamville Records released her debut EP, Pho, in October 2016 where she started getting noticed. Shea Butter Baby her debut album was released on May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox began posting her music to the internet in 2012 as she dropped her first mixtape Five Finger Discount and debut EP Ariography In 2013. The singer continued uploading her songs online throughout 2014, which included the self-released single Bound. In 2015, she appeared on Omen's Elephant Eyes album on Sweat it out on July 21st. J. Cole, who was part of the Dreamville team at the time was interested in having her create Rihanna references. Then, in December of 2008 it was announced that Rihanna was contracted with Dreamville Records. Backseat was her contribution to the Revenge of the Dreamers II album. On October 21, 2016 her Pho EP was released. Ari Lennox performed the song Change by J. Cole as well as opening the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour 2017, in which she accompanied by EarthGang. In 2018, she went on to guest feature on two tracks with her label-mates EarthGang in Nothing but the Best and Bas on Icarus. Ari Lennox dropped her first track Whipped Cream on Shea Butter Baby on July 16th. A music video followed followed by a video in September. Then, on the 9th November, she released another two singles titled 40 Shades of Choke (and Grampa). On November 13, she released two additional singles, titled No One as well as Pdigree. Shea Butter Baby is a song that she performed alongside Cole on Creed II's soundtrack on 16 November. The track was released as a stand-alone single in February of 2019 to coincide with the release of her debut album. This track, which was released with a video posted on YouTube 20 February 2019 has been viewed over 3 million times in the first 7 days. She was the supporting act for 6LACK on their From East Atlanta With Love Tour in December 2018.
